The Vype ePen is a rather unique looking product that represents the company’s latest foray into the entry level vaping market, and represents a big step forward from their well established cig-a-like brands. The appearance is what most people will comment on when first checking out the Vype ePen, with it’s tulip style battery certainly making it stand out from the crowd. As standard the kit comes with battery, two replacement caps/cartomizers, USB charger and replacement mouthpiece.
Solid Design & Functionality
The design is essentially three-piece with the battery and mouthpiece smoothly slotting together and enclosing a cartomizer (only Vype cartomizers will work with this range). It’s very straightforward to assemble and while made from reinforced plastic components the unit overall feels comfortable and surprisingly lightweight given it’s size.
What sets the ePen apart from earlier Vype products is that it allows for the user to select between ‘subtle’ and ‘bold’ modes (for lack of better terms) with the difference being that the bolder option provides for significantly greater vape cloud production. Of course this basically means that it pushes the battery harder and will cause it to lose energy quicker, but the difference is indeed quite noticeable and it’s nice additional little feature even if it does also burn through e liquid much faster.
Performance & Flavours
The cartridges cannot be refilled and as mentioned above must be from the Vype brand, which is somewhat limiting but by no means a disaster as replacements are easy to find and pretty fair value overall. As for performance the Vype ePen delivers a satisfying hit with a little more ‘oomph’ than would be expected from such a budget pen device, and the UK manufactured e liquid flavours are really very pleasant indeed. Considering that this is really a ‘push and play’ style of ePen the delivery is smooth and satisfying, which for most users is more than enough!
One point worth noting and will be of interest to people who have struggled with pen devices in the past, is that such is the way this product is assembled that leakage isn’t going to be an issue. The cartridges fasten onto the battery really tight and there’s no hint of leakage even after repeated removals and replacements.
Compared to other ePen style devices out there, this offering from Vype is a decent option that allows an enhanced vaping experience for a very reasonable price. The lack of refillable cartridges may present a slight issue for heavy users as they will likely need to stock up on replacement cartridges more than they may like, but for performance and a rather unique design this deserves a solid thumbs up overall.
